Why use WEBP?
WEBP is an image format designed for the web. At a similar visual quality, a WEBP file is usually smaller than the equivalent JPG, which means pages load faster and use less data, especially on mobile connections.
Every modern browser supports WEBP, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Some older desktop software and a few upload forms still expect JPG, so keep your original if you need maximum compatibility.
You can pick a quality level (85% by default) or switch to lossless mode, which stores the pixels of your JPG exactly as they are. Lossless files are larger, so the quality slider is usually the better choice for photos.
- Quality slider (default 85%) or lossless mode
- Usually smaller than JPG at similar quality
- Works in all modern browsers
- EXIF metadata removed by default
- Files up to 25 MB, no sign-up
