Why convert JPG to PNG?
JPG uses lossy compression: every save throws away a little detail. PNG is lossless, so once your image is a PNG it can be edited and re-saved as often as you like without losing more quality. That makes PNG a good working format for screenshots, graphics, and images you plan to edit.
Converting to PNG doesn't restore detail that the JPG compression already removed, and PNG files are usually larger than the JPG they came from. If you want a smaller file instead, try the image compressor or WEBP.
We read the photo's orientation tag so rotated phone photos come out the right way up. Colour profiles are kept so colours stay accurate. CMYK images from print workflows are converted to RGB, and we tell you when that happens.
