How PDF compression works
Most of the size in a large PDF usually comes from embedded images, such as photos and scanned pages. We reduce the resolution of oversized images, re-compress them, and tidy up the file's internal structure. Text and vector graphics aren't touched, so they stay sharp and searchable.
Choose Low to keep images closest to the original, Balanced for a good mix, or High for the smallest file, which can make images look softer. Scanned and image-heavy PDFs usually shrink the most. PDFs that are mostly text are often already compact and may barely shrink.
You'll see the original size, the compressed size and the percentage reduction. If the result isn't smaller, we tell you and give back your original file rather than a bigger one.
- Three levels: Low, Balanced and High
- Text and vector graphics stay sharp and searchable
- Before and after sizes with the percentage reduction
- Original returned if compression wouldn't help
- Files up to 25 MB, up to 1,000 pages
